Q&A

What is a free consultation?

A consultation provides an opportunity for us to meet via a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform, where we can discuss your needs, goals, and how I may be able to assist you on your current journey. It is often beneficial to meet with 2-3 providers for consultations before making a decision, as selecting the right provider is a crucial step. Mental healthcare involves developing a long-term, trusting relationship where you share some of the most personal aspects of your life. Taking the time to carefully choose the provider who best aligns with your needs is highly recommended.

What can I expect my first visit?

We will schedule a one-hour telehealth appointment to thoroughly review your goals, needs, health history (both past and current), lifestyle, faith beliefs, and other factors to gain a comprehensive understanding of what you wish to achieve through therapy and medication management. Insurance verification and eligibility must be completed prior to booking your intake appointment. If you require an expedited appointment, an invoice for cash payment will be issued and must be paid in full prior to the session.

If insurance information is not provided, verification is incomplete, or the invoice remains unpaid, the appointment will be subject to cancellation at the provider’s discretion. The appointment may be rescheduled once payment is received or insurance eligibility is verified for in-network coverage. It is the client’s responsibility to ensure that all necessary information and payments are submitted in a timely manner.

How long are follow up appointments?

The complexity and acuity of your case will determine the appropriate level of follow-up care. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is integrated into our follow-up sessions to support ongoing growth and overall wellness. Follow-up appointments typically range from 15 to 30 minutes, depending on your specific needs.

Do you have set office hours?

As a smaller, client-focused practice, I’m able to offer flexibility to accommodate your scheduling needs. Unlike larger organizations that see thousands of clients, I can provide appointment options that fit your lifestyle. Whether you need a session before work, during lunch, in the evening, or occasionally on weekends, I strive to make your care seamless and convenient. My goal is to ensure that your appointments integrate smoothly into your life, without requiring you to dedicate an entire afternoon each time you need to see your provider.

Can I login from my office, work, or at the park?

You are welcome to join the session from any environment where you feel comfortable discussing your personal life and needs. However, for safety reasons, I strongly recommend that you do not participate while driving, as the session will be conducted via Zoom and I want to prioritize your well-being. Ensuring a safe and focused setting for our meetings is important for your care.

Do you prescribe Controlled Substances?

My background is in addiction medicine, so I approach prescribing controlled substances with great caution. Benzodiazepines were developed for short-term use, typically no longer than six months. Before considering any controlled medications, we always explore both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic options. Given the potential risks, I do not prescribe controlled substances, especially through telehealth, as this is not recommended for remote care. Many states, in fact, require an in-person consultation for medications like stimulants and benzodiazepines, following DEA regulations.

What should I expect when I start working with you as a client?

Leveraging my expertise across a range of therapeutic modalities, I will guide you through a comprehensive exploration of various therapeutic approaches. Together, we will evaluate the merits and potential benefits of each modality, carefully considering your personal preferences, past experiences, and treatment objectives. This collaborative process ensures that your therapy is tailored to meet your unique needs, allowing us to select the most effective approach for fostering your growth and achieving your goals. My aim is to provide a well-rounded, personalized treatment plan that aligns with your values and supports your long-term well-being
